Edith Farnsworth House
The Edith Farnsworth House was designed by famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and built in Plano, Illinois. The building is celebrated for its profound connection to the natural landscape: floor-to-ceiling glass walls dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, while two expansive terraces extend the living space outdoors. Only the bathrooms are enclosed by walls; the rest of the interior remains open, allowing flexible furniture placement and unobstructed views. Originally built as a retreat for Dr. Edith Farnsworth, the house now operates as a museum near Chicago. For this project, I created architectural drawings of the house, including a building section, floor plan, and perspective view. This exercise developed my skills in scaling and technical drawing during my first semester. A challenge I had was aligning the section cut line on the plan with the corresponding section view. Along with tackling the challenge, learning to coordinate these drawings and understand how they relate to one another was one of the most valuable lessons from this project.
